Micro-schools: New Idea or Blast From the Past?

Have you ever heard the term Micro-school? This was new to me so I went exploring for information.  What I found is very interesting and I believe this is a valuable option for many families.   We are similar in that we are a "one-room schoolhouse", have comfortable seating, and encourage real learning to take place without the focus of standardized tests and curriculum.

In the past, homeschooling was the norm.  People would learn at home from parents or a tutor and through extensive reading.  I've seen statistics that show the illiteracy rate is higher now than before we had public schools.  I believe this is because education will never be a "one-size-fits-all" endeavor, not matter how much money you pour into it and how many tests you come up with, you are still dealing with humanity and we aren't meant to sit at a desk all day!
